John Collier (18 December 1708 – 14 July 1786) was an English caricaturist and satirical poet known by the pseudonym of Tim Bobbin, or Timothy Bobbin. Collier styled himself as the Lancashire Hogarth.
Born in Urmston, after spending some years lving and working as a schoolmaster in Milnrow,[cite web |last=Poole |first=Robert |title=Collier, John (1708–1786)|work=Oxford Dictionary of National Biography |url=http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/5919 |publisher=Oxford University Press |date=2004 |accessdate=2008-04-28] The Lancashire dialect poetry collection, "Human Passions Delineated", a work which he both wrote and illustrated, appeared in 1773. In it he savagely lampooned the behaviour of upper and lower classes alike. The etchings were widely reproduced, and some were printed on ceramics of the time, [Lionel Burman, "Rochdale: Enter Tim Bobbin...Burlington Magazine, Vol. 122, No. 927 (Jun., 1980), pp. 449,451-452] and a colourised reproduction of 25 of the plates was published in 1810.
