Paul Nelson (born January 21, 1936, in
Warren, Minnesota , and died circa June 28, 2006, in New York City) was a folk and rockmusic critic who wrote for "Sing Out! " and "Rolling Stone". He was instrumental in launching and supporting the careers ofThe New York Dolls ,Elliott Murphy ,Bruce Springsteen ,Jackson Browne andWarren Zevon . Although Nelson defendedBob Dylan when he "went electric" at theNewport Folk Festival in 1965, years later he wrote a negative review of the Dylan album, "Shot of Love ".
