- Rail Cam
The rail cam made a public debut in the
NHL on November 20, 2006 in theColorado Avalanche /Dallas Stars hockey game. The Versuscable television network used the camera as much as they could during the game to test it out for a live use on a nationally broadcast program. The camera is fastened to a rail system that runs on the top of the glass on one side of theice rink . As the play shifts from end to end, the motorized mount allows the camera to follow the action, sliding rapidly down the side of the ice. This creates a unique view for the television audience as they get to experience the action much closer than before. Fletcher Chicago is responsible for developing and supplying this new camera system.Future Use
If development and testing run according to plan, the new camera will reappear in the
2007 NHL All-Star Game on January 24, 2007. The game is being held at theAmerican Airlines Center , which is the Dallas Stars' home ice arena, where the camera was tested in November.ee also
