WXMM had been WCMS-FM with a
country music format since they first came on the airwaves in 1962. The calls originally stood for "where country music swings" and the original slogan was "Western Country Music Station." The format shifted toClassic Country at 3PM onApril 10 ,2003 .After more than 40 years of country music, the format was dropped on
November 28 ,2003 around 11:30 PM for Mainstream Rock. The first song wasAC/DC 's "You Shook Me All Night Long."Ownership
Sold to Max Media from Barnstable Broadcasting in early 2005. The cluster (92.9/WFOG, 94.1/
WXEZ , 97.3/WGH-FM , 100.5/WXMM , 1310/WCMS) went for $80M. A sixth station in the Barnstable cluster (1050/WVXX ) was sold separately.Playlists
In June 2008, 100.5 MAX-FM's [http://playlist.maxfm.fm/ Playlist] site launched. Allowing its listeners to program the station, users can log on and create their favorite playlist of music and submit it. When the playlists are played on the radio, listeners are given attribution via their own recorded intros throughout the hour.
