The A253 is a short
primary route running west-east throughEast Kent within the Isle ofThanet .Current Route
The road begins at the junction with the A28 in the centre of
Sarre , close to the Sarre Windmill, at a mini-roundabout. It then travels eastwards through an area of flat and low lying land with little buildings nearby. It passes four roads on the right and two on the left before terminating at a large roundabout with the A299 just north of Monkton. The total length of the A253 is approximately 1.7 miles.Previous Route
Before the 2000’s, the A253 actually continued past its junction with the A299 onto a dual carriageway, passing retail parks near
Manston , and then running onto a single road parallel withKent International Airport . The A253 then continued through the village ofCliffsend , past the Lord of the Manor Roundabout junction with the A256 and finally terminating in Chilton, on the outskirts ofRamsgate . However, since the 2000’s, this 5 mile stretch of road has been renumbered to the A299, which extends the A299 further so that it now starts in Ramsgate Harbour and terminates at Brenley Corner nearFaversham (where it merges with the M2).External links
