Alex Mathie (born 20 December 1968 in Bathgate) is a Scottish former footballer who made over 200 appearances as a striker for a number of British clubs. His most recent position was as player/manager with NCEL Premier Division side Pickering Town, whom he resigned from in January 2007.

Career

Mathie began his career with Celtic, making eleven appearances before leaving for Morton in 1991 in a £100k deal. After a short loan spell with Port Vale, Mathie won a move in 1993 to Newcastle United in a deal worth just under £300k. Mathie played just 25 times in two seasons and moved to Ipswich Town in 1995 for £500k. Thirty-eight goals in over 100 appearances saw him win a £700k move to Dundee United in 1998 but Mathie would score just five goals in two seasons at Tannadice, leading to a loan move with Preston and eventual free transfer in September 2000. On 29 July 2008, Mathie began working for BBC Radio Suffolk to provide match commentary and analysis for former side Ipswich, joining former players such as Bryan Hamilton and John Wark.
