Vedanta Society of Southern California

The Vedanta Society was founded in 1930 in Los Angeles, California. The society is under the spiritual leadership of Ramakrishna Mission. The central theme of the Society is the spread of Swami Vivekananda's message.

The Vedanta society maintains the house where Vivekananda lived near Caltech, Pasadena. The Society has multiple ashrams, including locations in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Diego, San Francisco and other places throughout the world. There is a retreat at Trabuco, 60 miles south of LA, which is also home to a sculpture of Vivekananda. The Vedanta Society of Southern California maintains a comprehensive list of centers worldwide.

This society attracts students from all over America to research the life of Swamiji, the life of Ramakrishna Paramhansa, and Vedanta. Swami Swahananda heads the Vedanta Society of Southern California, Vedanta Center of Greater Washington, D.C. and Vivekananda Retreat, Ridgely, NY.
