Bizimcity

Bizimcity is a political cartoon strip, created by Salih Memecan, a prominent Turkish cartoonist. It is staged in an imaginary wild western town with a daily agenda parallel that of Turkey, and with characters who resemble the actual Turkish politicians. Bizimcity creator Salih Memecan takes on the daily issues (human rights, corruption, inflation, economic crises, getting into EU, etc.) through Bizimcity. The name ‘Bizimcity’, a combination of Turkish and English words, literally translates as ‘our city’.

The strip has a daily regular spot on the front page of Sabah newspaper, with a circulation of nearly half a million, since 1991.The animated version of Bizimcity is a pioneering work in its context. It is produced daily on the issue of the day. The wit and the simple format of the animated version make it easy to grasp the point.It has a regular spot on the weekday prime-time news program on ATV, the leading national TV channel in Turkey, since 1994.
