Kabarak University

Kabarak University is a Christian based institution located twenty kilometers from Nakuru, Kenya (the fourth largest city in Kenya) on the Nakuru-Eldama Ravine road.

Brief History of the University

The setting up of Kabarak University was as a result of the forward vision of the 2nd President of the Republic of Kenya and the Chancellor of the University - His Excellency Daniel T. arap Moi - who wanted to set up a reputable Christian, Liberal Arts, Science and Technology University.

The University opened its doors to the first batch of students in September 2002.

Accreditation

The University is operating under a Letter of Interim Authority granted by the Kenya Government. The Letter of Interim Authority was presented to the University by the Commission for Higher Education of Kenya, on 16th October 2001, therefore allowing the institution to award degrees. On 16th May 2008 the university was awarded charter.

Mission

  • To share knowledge, skills, and experiences with the rest of mankind in the pursuit of human advancement
  • To provide a holistic education, with a Christian liberal Arts foundation, that will enable the students to develop intellectually, spiritually, physically and socially
  • To become a centre of Excellence for thought, discussion, research and teaching within the context of Christian truth and commitment, spiritual sensitivity, and submission to Christ’s lordship.
  • To provide adequate facilities and infrastructure for a high quality education, such as library resources, laboratories, research facilities, classrooms, and buildings to support the various curricula and syllabi
  • To stimulate appreciation, understanding, adoption and commitment to the Christian faith and to emphasize the centrality of the Christian ethic and its motive of service to God
  • To demonstrate that work, both manual and mental, has dignity;
  • To promote ideas of brotherhood, equality, and democracy with particular emphasis on national patriotism
  • To maintain and encourage a way of life characterized by the fear of God, humility, honesty, pride in labour, quest for knowledge, high moral standards, and concern for the welfare of other
  • To promote clean and safe environment for the posterity of mankind

tudent Activities

Kabarak University has approximately 1000 students drawn from all over Kenya. Students actively participate in co-curriculum activities and the institution hosts a number of social clubs. Examples are:

FONACON - Foster National Cohesion
SIFE - Students in Free Enterprise
HIV/AIDS AWARENESS CLUB
KENYA RED CROSS CLUB
OUTDOORS CLUB

In Sports, Kabarak Students actively participate in Rugby, Basketball (the Royals), Lawn tennis, Football, Hockey (the Cyclones) and many other games but it is not fully developed and student's are working hard in trying to create more windows of opportunity for themselves which were are not previously there. Indoor games are also picking up pace with Chess in the lead.

=Student organization=Student government which is known as Kabarak university student organization (KUSO), is the key organ representing student interest at all times. This is done with the conscience of not conflicting with the mission and vision of the institution. Although it is still in its early stages of development, the students organization is fighting hard to look into the long forgotten student's rights.
