Katrina McClain Johnson

Katrina McClain Johnson, born September 19, 1965 in Charleston, South Carolina, is a retired American basketball player.

College years

Johnson began her career at the University of Georgia, where she was a two-time All-American (1986, 1987) and won varsity letters all four years. She was named a Freshman All-American team in 1984 and the National Player of the Year in 1987. She ranks second on Georgia’s all-time career charts with 2,195 points (17.6 ppg) and 1,193 rebounds (9.5). Her jersey number (#32) was retired, making one of only three Lady Bulldogs to receive that honor.

International career

Johnson was on 11 U.S. National Teams, including three Olympic Teams (gold medals in 1988 and 1996 and bronze in 1992). She was also on teams that medaled in three World Championships (golds in 1986 and 1990 [World Championship golds [http://www.fiba2006brazil.com/galeria_10.asp?l=en 1986] , [http://www.fiba2006brazil.com/galeria_11.asp?l=en 1990] ] and bronze in 1994), two Goodwill Games (golds in 1986 and 1990), two Pan American Games (gold in 1987 and bronze in 1991) and the World University Games (silver in 1985). She hold several records in international competitions including the USA Olympic record for rebounds (66) in a single competition and the USA Goodwill Games competition record for rebounds (54).

Professional career

Johnson played professionally overseas for nine years and ended her professional career with the Atlanta Glory of the American Basketball League (ABL). She was honored as a member of the 1998 ABL All-Star Game Eastern Conference Team.

Other Honors

Johnson was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.She was selected as USA Basketball’s Female Athlete of the Year in both 1988 and 1992
