Overview

An X Japan reunion was announced in mid-2007, with Yoshiki, Toshi, Heath and Pata joining. In July, Yoshiki was approached about composing the main theme for Lionsgate's Saw IV (Yoshiki also composed Lionsgate's "Catacombs" main theme), Yoshiki chose to perform the song with X Japan. cite web

] This was confirmed on the 18th with an official announcement. I.V. (performed and written by Yoshiki) would feature Toshi, Heath, Pata and Yoshiki along with unreleased Hide guitar tracks. According to Yoshiki, the version released on the song is a short version of Yoshiki's original work, that was too long to fit the movie. cite web

Several things have been said about the meaning of "I.V.". Yoshiki originally used it as an acronym for intravenous drip. He later noticed it would fit with the movie's title and the X Japan line-up. I.V. could also stand for 9.22 the date in which X Japan announced its disbandment.Fact|date=July 2008

Originally the song was going to be released on the Saw IV soundtrack release, but Yoshiki preferred to release it as an X Japan title. The song will be released worldwide on January 23 via iTunes Store (Japan, South Korea, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, France, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden). cite web

I.V. will be released, along with Without You, in a new X Japan album as well.

Music video

The promotional video for the song was filmed during the band's performance on October 22 on the rooftop of Aqua City, Odaiba, Tokyo. The video shows the band playing on a big stage, on the top of a Tokyo skyscraper. During the video, some hide shoots are shown from the Shibuya monitor. At the end, the band is playing the last chorus under the rain. The video is scheduled to be released on January 22, 2008 inside the special features for the Saw IV DVD and in February 29 along the X Japan returns Complete Edition.
