Mesa de Maya inColorado southeasterly convert|28|mi|km|0|lk=on along the north bank of theCimarron River , crossing the northeast corner ofNew Mexico to end at the confluence of the Cimarron and Carrizo Creek near Kenton in theOklahoma panhandle . Its highest elevation is over convert|5700|ft|m|0|lk=on in Colorado; in New Mexico it attains convert|5239|ft|m|0; and in Oklahoma, it reaches convert|4973|ft|m|0, the highest point in that state.The summit is believed to have formed many millennia ago when black lava rock coated the top.
