MN Spoken Word Association
- MN Spoken Word Association
The MN Spoken Word Association (MNSWA) is a spoken word organization based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, cofounded in 2000 by spoken word artists, E. G. Bailey and Shá Cage, and choreographer Leah Nelson. Spearheaded by many of the leading spoken word artists in Minnesota, it was created to foster and support the spoken word community in Minnesota.
In August 2001, MNSWA presented the first spoken word conference, Singers of Daybreak, a two day dialogue on the art form of spoken word. In 2003, it began broadcasting the spoken word and hip hop radio show, Urban Griots, on KMOJ radio station. It has created performance series, residencies and youth programs to continue to develop and promote the art form.
