Despite being an American band, His Name Is Alive was signed to the British 4AD label, and had no American distribution for their first three releases on 4AD. USA-based Rykodisc re-issued the albums in the summer of 1992, shortly before 4AD signed a distribution deal with Warner Bros. Records so that all 4AD releases would see release in the USA. Bonus tracks were included on two CDs: "Livonia" featured an extra track called "Livonia", and "Home Is in Your Head" included "The Dirt Eaters EP". To commemorate these releases, Rykodisc issued this compilation as a promotional item to record stores. Many die-hard fans of 4AD and HNIA, despite likely having all the songs included already, sought out and obtained the compilation CD to add to their collection. The artwork was based on the inside sleeve artwork from the 4AD UK release of "Home Is in Your Head".

This was also a significant release because it was the first introduction to the band for many American fans. Many who had only read about the band while the records were only available in the UK (or as pricey imports) found this CD their introduction to the band; an introduction that for many led to obsessive fanship.

The title track, "Man on the Silver Mountain," is a cover of a Rainbow song from their first album, "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow".
