John Francis O'Brien (June 13, 1874 Watertown, Jefferson County, New York - December 25, 1939) was an American lawyer and politician.

Life

He was the son of New York State Attorney General Denis O'Brien. He graduated from Georgetown College (now part of Georgetown University) in 1896, and from New York Law School in 1898. He served as Assistant Corporation Council for New York City. When Benjamin N. Cardozo was appointed Chief Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals in 1927, O'Brien was appointed Associate Judge to fill the vacancy, and was re-elected in 1927 to a full term, but died in office in 1939. Following his death, Albert Conway was appointed by Governor Herbert Lehman to serve for the remainder of the term.
