McAfee Stinger is a small unsupported on-demand virus scanner designed to remove specific viruses. It is not designed as a general-purpose anti-virus program, but as a tool to assist in dealing with infected systems. It uses current technology and easily fits on a USB drive. The latest version provides detection for 2720 viruses, trojans & variants.[1]

In recent versions of Stinger, McAfee has developed the software to specifically target fake alert threats, a form of Scareware.[2]
