Theódór Elmar "Teddy" Bjarnason (born March 4 1987 in Reykjavík, Iceland) is a midfielder currently playing for Norwegian side Lyn Oslo.

Club career

Before joining Celtic, Teddy played for KR Reykjavík in Iceland. He also played one season for the reserve team of the Norwegian club IK Start as a 16 year old, but rejected an offer of a professional contract with them and moved back to Iceland.

Teddy made his domestic debut for Celtic against Hibernian in the last game of season 2006/07 and played the full 90 minutes in a match which he was named man of the match by the Celtic website. He is a player with huge potential and was regarded very highly by Celtic and was expected to break into the first the following Season, but injuries hampered his progress.

On May 21 2007 Teddy announced he will put pen to paper on a two year contract extension with Celtic to tie him to the club until the summer of 2009 and on June 13, he signed a new three year contract.cite news

On January 15 2008 Bjarnason signed for Norwegian Premier League club F.C. Lyn Oslo [ [http://www.celticfc.net/news/stories/news_150108141714.aspx Teddy Bjarnason moves to Norway] , Celtic FC, 15 January, 2008] , in a bid to play regular first team football again.

International career

Also in May 2007, Teddy received his first full international call up for his native country Iceland against Liechtenstein.His first start for the national team was in the next match, on June 6th 2007 against Sweden where he was voted the best player of the Icelandic team, which was heavily beaten 0-5.

Trivia

His grandfather, Theódór Jakob Guðmundsson, played for KR Reykjavík in the golden years of that club and competed against Liverpool in 1964 in the first European game for both of these clubs.
