Hill Park Secondary School is the oldest school in the Hamilton Mountain and run by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board.

Courses Offered

* Business - This course will introduce students to the world of business and at the same time, students will get a sampling of all the business courses available for study at Hill Park. Students will be introduced to concepts and skills which will help prepare them for business in the 21st century such as Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Computers, Money Management, Retailing, Economics, Marketing and International Business.

* Drama - This course students will learn on the aspects of theatre arts such as mime, movement, choral drama, scene writing, characterization, scene studies, modern theatre, film and stage production.

* English - English studies at Hill Park focus on promoting literacy, encouraging curiosity, and fostering a life-long love of reading. They look forward to working with students to meet these goals, and to share the joy of learning.

* Family Studies - This course is an interdisciplinary subject area integrating the social and physical sciences. It includes the study of individual and family development, relationships, parenting, decision-making, resource management, food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, housing and health sciences through theory and practical experience. The Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology courses focus on the understanding of human behaviour and contemporary issues. Successful students in the Parenting Pathway may apply for the Early Childhood Educator Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program Initiative.

* Geography - Geography at hill Park offers students an easy going instructors that care about each student in an individual way. Realising that each students’ world has a different scale or size, we offer annual field studies that can increase the size of our world. Hill Park Geography department leads the way in GIS and GPS training for staff and students in the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. They also compete in the National Great Canadian Geography Challenge, the McMaster University GIS Day poster competitions, and the Board wide Envirothon Competition.

* History - This course explores some of the events and experiences that have influenced the development of Canada's identity as a nation. Students will investigate the challenges presented by economic, social and technological changes and explore the contributions of individuals and groups of Canadian culture and society during this period. History students in Hill Park have an opportunity each year to go on field study including New York, Boston, Washington D.C. and Ottawa.

* Languages - The language program here at Hill Park provides students with valuable experiences and tools for students to apply in all aspects of life. Through the study of a second or third language, students will become more culturally diverse and will also enhance their opportunities for a career choice. At Hill Park, students can learn both French and Spanish.

* Mathematics - You should be aware that many careers in areas such as engineering, technology, computer science, medicine, nursing, etc. All require a strong background in mathematics and science courses. Many students close doors to many occupations when they choose to avoid the necessary mathematics courses.

* Music - Students will choose courses like Instrumental Music which is allow students to become skilled at playing woodwind, brass or percussion instruments, Vocal Music are designed to allow students to develop their voices as musical instruments, Repertoire where students develop an appreciation and understanding of the contemporary symphonic concert band as a vehicle for musical expression, and Guitar which students develop fundamental skills of guitar playing.

* Physical Education - Physical Education at Hill Park emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong health and active living. Students will learn movement skills and principles, ways to improve personal, fitness, and physical competence, and safety and injury prevention. Students will participate in activities designed to develop goal setting, communication, and social skills.

* Science - Students will learn on the basic and the special concepts of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Students taking this class have the opportunity each year to go on field study in New Brunswick.

* Technical - Students will learn in a wide variety of technological and computer concepts and communication technology.

* Visual Arts - this course provide students with valuable experiences that stimulate the imagination, and encourage creative problem solving, self-expression, communication, critical thinking, and visual literacy. They also offering courses like Stage Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Sculpture and Photography which this courses are only offered in Hill Park.

Sports

Hill Park is very competitive in terms of sports. Girls Field Hockey Team is the strongest sport in school that never missed a playoffs. During the 2006 season, the team made to the finals but was lost against Sherwood. In 2007 season, Hill Park was placed as 3rd seed in the East Division but they lost to the West Division 2nd seeder Westmount that ended the team in the quarter-finals.

Former NBA player Bobby Croft was hired as head coach of Hill Park Rams Senior Basketball Team in the 2006-2007 season. However, Hill Park's season was very disappointing and Croft was not re-signed for 2007-2008 season.

Hill Park is also competitive in other sports like Tennis, Badminton and Rugby union.
