Casper Whitney was a sports journalist, hunter, traveler, war correspondent, and author.
He originated the concept of the All-American team in
college football in1889 when he worked forHarper's Magazine . From 1900 he was editor-in-chief of the monthlyThe Outing Magazine which promoted the outdoors and sporting pursuits, as well as a good deal of adventure fiction; authors includedJack London andClarence E. Mulford . He was a founding member of the theExplorers Club (1904) after expeditions in North and South America. He was President of theAmerican Olympic Committee in 1908.Works
