- Scolt Head Island
Scolt Head Island is an offshore
barrier island nearBrancaster , northNorfolk ,England , (but within the neighbouring parish of Burnham Norton) located 10 km west ofWells-next-the-Sea . It is aNational Nature Reserve . It is steadily growing westwards toward the wreck of theSS Vina visible fromBrancaster Beach .The island comprises
sand dune s,saltmarsh , intertidal sand andmud flats , andshingle . It supports nationally and internationally important numbers of breedingSandwich Tern ,Roseate Tern s,Arctic Tern s andLittle Tern s, as well as winteringwader s andwildfowl .A seasonal (spring/summer) ferry connects the island with the village of
Burnham Overy Staithe .References
