SAAF Ventura as was used in 1945 by 28 SqnActive 1943 to present Country South Africa Branch South African Air Force Role Medium Transport Garrison/HQ AFB Waterkloof Motto "Portamus" (We Carry) Equipment C-130BZ/F Hercules 28 Squadron SAAF is a squadron of the South African Air Force. It is currently a medium transport squadron flying Lockheed C-130BZ and F Hercules medium transport aircraft.
- First formed: 1 June 1943 (At Almaza, Egypt.) The squadron flew Dakota DC3's as part of 216 Group of the Mediterranean Allied Air Forces in May 1945[1]
- There were plans to equip the squadron with between 8 and 14 A400M transports ordered from Airbus Military; this order was cancelled in 2009.[2]
- Current base: AFB Waterkloof, Pretoria.
