Fredrik August
Lidströmer (1787- 1856), son ofJonas Lidströmer . Swedish architect, artist and marine officer andStockholm 's City architect. Grown up in the in the naval city ofKarlskrona and came to Stockholm to help his father with construction of theObelisk at Slottsbacken adjacent to the royal palace, and then continued with the construction of thequays surrounding the waters of the capital [L. M. Bååth, Helgeandsholmen och Norrrström, vol. I-II, Stockholm, 1918] and he is the architect of Stockholm's oldest official park, theStrömparterren [Albert Lindström, "Om Strömparterren förr och nu", Stockholm, 1932] , between theRoyal Palace in Stockholm and theOpera House , just opposite today's Parliament building (Riksdagen ) [T Höijer, "Börs-, bro- och hamnbyggnads kommitterade", Stockholm 1815-1846, 1953] [Claes Lundin,August Strindberg , "Gamla Stockholm", Stockholm, 1882]He was the first architect for king
Karl XIV Johan at the construction of the originalRosendal Palace (that burned down 1819). He was Stockholm's City architect 1818-1824. He also performed the drawings for the new replacing Rosendal palace, which was to a great deal followed byFredrik Blom , who was also the adept of the father Jonas Lidströmer. The Queen's pavilion (Drottningpaviljongen ) at the present Rosendal palace is however completely the work of Fredrik August Lidströmer, as well as the Guard's cottage (Vaktstugan ). Carl XIII in the Royal garden (Kungsträdgården ) in Stockholm was constructed by him. At the order of the king he was also responsible for transport and placement of the giantPorphyry Vase at the Rosendal palace. Porphyry is a unique volcanic stone, extremely heavy and solid, and the Rosendal Vase is the world's largest porfyr object, cut in one item and considered a masterpiece. Göta Canal , the canal connecting Sweden's east and west coasts, the most expensive and technically advanced building project at the time. He also constructedVisby Hospital (Visby lasarett) onGotland and the Prison (Länsfängelset) inNyköping . His last works were the quays ofNybroviken , whereStrandvägen meet the Theatre (Dramaten ) in central Stockholm. His work has been documented on several preserved original paintings, drawings and other art work in a number of archives.
