Barra da Lagoa

Barra da Lagoa is a quaint, small, fishing village near the city of Florianópolis. It is situated at the mouth of a tidewater channel flows either in or out of the Island's sizable lagoon (lagoa). This tidewater channel is at the end of a long sweeping beach called praia de Moçambique that is a popular destination. Many people stay there because its less costly than the nearby Lagoa da Conceição. There are several points of interest of which I will tick off and allow others to fill in the details.
*There is foot bridge across the tidewater channel. It was completely renovated and strengthened in 2007. On the far side of the bridge are many houses. There is no way for anyone to get a car on this side so there are nothing but footpaths. It is a lifestyle that is a bit of a throwback and quite interesting to experience.
*The Backpackers Share House provides cheap accommodation and is rated amongst the best hostels in the World. It is Brazilian owned.
*The Villa Vilalva is a new luxury Guest House in Barra da Lagoa for those who would like to be pampered and have their own suite instead of sharing a room with 6 other people in Backpackers.
*There is a tiny beach around the corner from the mouth of the tidewater channel.
*If you walk about in the small alleys and streets by the channel you can sometimes glimse a wooden fishing boat being constructed the old way by hand.
*There are many paderias, bakeries which bake fresh pastries on a daily basis and two fresh fruit and vegetable stands for economical, healthy dining.
*The Bisro, Isadora Duncan is one of Florianopolis finest restaurants and it is located in Barra da Lagoa overlooking the lagoon.

Barra da Lagoa is also one of the safest places to learn to surf in Brazil. There are no big rocks, sharks or deep holes and the water is usually below chest deep. The small, consistent waves are perfect for learning how to get up on the surfboard. Jaqueline Silva, a current World Surfing Champion lives in Barra da Lagoa. A new surfing School, Brazil Surf Academy specializes in teaching beginners on Barra da Lagoa.
