- Emil Scaria
Emil Scaria (
September 18 ,1838 -July 23 ,1886 ) was anAustria nbass-baritone . Born inGraz , he studied at the conservatory inVienna before making his deput in Pest in 1860; he sang the role of St. Bris in "Les Huguenots ". He was a failure, and abandoned the stage entirely in favor of further study; he selectedManuel García as his new teacher. Though he returned to the stage inDessau , he did not see success util he sang at the Crystal Palace inLondon in 1862. In 1863 he appeared with theLeipzig Opera; in 1864 he was working inDresden . He was engaged by theVienna State Opera in 1872. In 1882 he created the role of Gurnemanz in "Parsifal " forRichard Wagner atBayreuth . Scaria died inBlasewitz , inGermany , in 1886.References
