Southern Natural Gas Company, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, is a natural gas pipeline company that was founded in 1928 and is currently a division of El Paso Corporation. The company was a division of Sonat Inc. until 1999 when Sonat and El Paso merged. Southern Natural Gas owns 50% of Citrus Corp. which owns Florida Gas Transmission. The company also operates the Southern Natural Pipeline. Southern Natural currently has approximatley 8,000 miles of pipeline and an additional 4,900 miles of pipeline through Florida Gas Transmission.
