Mere Green is an area of Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, England. It is a small commercial centre on the edge of Sutton Park. The area features a shopping area, which has a range of independent shops, along with national chain stores. Plans have been outlined for a major redevelopment[1] of the Mere Green shopping area, which would involve the demolition of many of the smaller shops. The scheme by Spring Urban was approved[2] on 8 August 2007. The development has been delayed by the recession and as of Aug 2009 work had not started.[3]
Mere Green Library and Community Centre offer classes ranging from yoga to art, book readings, free internet access, tennis and lawn green bowls.
The area made the news in 1983 when an Italian called Renato Pagliari, then co-owner of the La Gondola restaurant[citation needed] in Mere Green, scored a No 1 hit single in the UK with a singer called Renato, entitled 'Save Your Love'.
