Ghida Fakhry

Ghida Fakhry is the Washington, D.C. co-anchor for Al Jazeera English along with Shihab Rattansi.

Early life and education

Fakhry was born in Ghana in 1970 and grew up in Switzerland and Beirut, Lebanon, daughter of a Ghanaian pipe and plastics factory owner. She attended the prestigious and exclusive private secondary school Le Rosey and earned her undergraduate degree from the Richmond University (formally Richmond, the American International University of London) and a masters degree in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. Career

In April 2006 became co-anchor for the Washington, D.C. broadcast of Al Jazeera International's English language television news program (Al-Jazeera English TV news broadcasts daily from four separate news bureaus: Doha, Washington, D.C., London, and Kuala Lumpur). Fakhry was New York Bureau Chief of the London-based Arabic language daily Asharq Al-Awsat. From 2002-2004, she was the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation-Al Hayat's lead evening news anchor from London, and was the New York Bureau Chief from 2000 to late 2001 for Al Jazeera. Previous to that, she was a New York Correspondent of Abu Dhabi Television.

Fahkry has conducted in depth interviews with high profile world leaders, including former United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, the late and former Chairman of the Palestinian Authority and PLO Yasser Arafat and former United States Secretary of State Colin Powell.
