- Sensory cortex
The sensory cortex is an
umbrella term for the primary and secondary cortexes of the differentsense s: thevisual cortex on theoccipital lobes , theauditory cortex on thetemporal lobes , thesomatosensory cortex on thepostcentral gyrus , theolfactory cortex on the entorhinal and pyriform cortexes, and thegustatory cortex laterally on thepostcentral gyrus .All sensory areas are located behind the lateral and
central fissure , that is, more at the back of the brain.Note that the central sulcus (or fissure) divides the primary motor cortex (in the precentral gyrus) from the sensory cortex (in the postcentral gyrus).
The posterior parietal cortex (somatosensory cortex) is involved in somatic sensation, visual stimuli, and movement planning.
