Judith Robinson White Brockenbrough (March 6,1784 to March 10, 1854) was born in
King William County, Virginia , was the daughter of John Camm White and Judith Braxton. She married William Brockenbrough in 1806. An intimate ofDolley Madison , wife of PresidentJames Madison , she was present in Washington when the British burned the city in 1814 during theWar of 1812 . She assisted Dolley Madison in rescuing valuables from theWhite House . Dolley Madison said of her, "as a friend I find Mrs. Judith Brockenbrough unequalled."In later years, her husband was a judge on the Virginia Court of Appeals, and the family was close to Chief Justice
John Marshall , who resided near them inRichmond, Virginia .Her son, Judge
John White Brockenbrough , was one of the principal proponents of Robert E. Lee becoming president of Washington College.External links
