ecoregion of southernEurope andNorth Africa , designated by theWorld Wildlife Fund as one of theirGlobal 200 ecoregions, a list of priority ecoregions for conservation.These forests include
temperate coniferous forests ,temperate broadleaf and mixed forests , and montane forest steppes covering several high mountain ranges of Western Asia, including theCaucasus ,Lesser Caucasus ,Pontic Mountains ,Alborz , andKopet Dag , which stretch fromBulgaria in the west toTurkmenistan in the east, encompassing portions ofBulgaria ,Turkey , Georgia,Russia ,Armenia ,Azerbaijan ,Iran , andTurkmenistan .The
terrestrial ecoregion s included within the larger ecoregion include:
*Caspian Hyrcanian mixed forests (Azerbaijan, Iran)
*Caucasus mixed forests (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Turkey)
