Forward collision warning
- Forward collision warning
Some modern vehicles have forward collision warning (FCW, FCWS) systems, also known as front collision warning systems, collision warning systems (CWS) and rear end collision warning systems. These use either a radar or laser setup to warn the driver if a vehicle in front - given the speed of both vehicles - gets too close (within the preset headway or braking distance). Some systems can be linked to a car's cruise control system, allowing the vehicle to slow when catching up with the vehicle in front and accelerate again to the preset speed when traffic allows. For most studies is not on the development of hardware, it is the procedure on the hardware that attract the attention because once a hardware is installed on the car, it will not be changed easily for the industry standard on the market. Software on hardware is reasonable for now.
