The Albany Academies

The Albany Academies

, the single entity will permanently unite the schools’ administrative functions and development efforts while maintaining separate academic and extra-curricular programs. The merger will fully take effect before the 2007—2008 academic year. Governance, finance, and facilities will be consolidated under one new Board of Trustees made up of equal representation from both schools. [http://www.albany-academy.org/news/news_full.cfm?ID=29]

The merger of The Albany Academy (founded 1813) and Albany Academy for Girls (founded 1814) occurs after years of speculation and increased collaboration between the institutions, including four years with a shared Head of Schools, Caroline B. Mason. A fact sheet produced at the time of the announcement ensures that single-gender education will remain at all levels. The Upper School Coordinate Program, which allows for cross-registration during 11th and 12th will continue to allow mixed-gender classes in certain subjects. Staffing levels and tuition will not be affected by the merger. Each school will continue to grant their own diplomas.
