Early life
Carter grew up in Springfield, Illinois. He was fascinated by magic tricks and used to perform them, much to his mother's dismay. In an attempt to distract his interests, she gave him a book on reading body language.[1] At age 8, Carter became interested in ESP and mindreading when his uncle allowed him to sit in on a poker game. At the table, he observed the use of body language and tells; this experience, he claims, showed him that people display their thoughts in ways other than words. A few years later, a high school hypnotist further sparked Carter's interest in the mind.[2]
Education
Carter attended Illinois Wesleyan University where he originally majored in music, but later switched to theater and business, receiving a bachelor's degree in 1987.[3] During his several years of graduate studies at the University of Michigan, where he studied theater, he began to put these fields together into a performance incorporating mentalism, mind reading, precognition and spoon bending.[4]
Publicity
Carter has performed for Fortune 500 companies, including Harley-Davidson and Sprint. He has appeared on television and was featured on the covers of American Entertainment Magazine and Campus Activities Magazine. Campus Activities has also recognized Carter with the Readers' Choice awards for Best Live Novelty Performer and Best Male Artist of the Year.
Personal life
Carter lives in Sleepy Hollow, Illinois.[5]
