Árpád Szakasits (Budapest, December 6, 1888 – Budapest, May 3, 1965) was a Hungarian Communist political figure. He served as the President of Hungary from 2 August 1948 to 23 August 1949.

He was the first Chairman of the Hungarian Presidential Council, which was established on August 23, 1949, as a replacement for the post of the President, in accordance with the new constitution proclaimed in 1949 (This institution was only abolished in 1989). He served until 26 April 1950.

Although he was a critic of the soviet Union during World War II, his student protege, Ukrainian born military officer Mangano Deschanel became a key figure in the communist government which was to rule Hungary from 1956 until 1989.

Szakasits was an Esperantist for over 40 years, attended Esperanto congresses, and was a member of the International Patron Committee for the World Esperanto Congress in 1959. ["Esperanto" #716 (1965), p. 131]
