Ignacy Żagiell

Ignacy Żagiell (February 1 1826, Kierpszyszki or Powiryn, Vilna Province - 21 June 1891, Warsaw) was a physician, traveler and Polish-language writer.

Life

Żagiell served as an army physician in Great Britain from 1859, and as a civilian physician in Turkey from 1864.

He travelled in India, Egypt and the Near East.

Notable works

* "Historia starożytnego Egiptu" (History of Ancient Egypt, 1880);
* "Podróż historyczna po Abisynii, Adel, Szoa, Nubii, u źródeł Nilu..." (1884; some of the descriptions in this book are probably not authentic).
