Route
The pipeline will run from Lubmin near Greifswald to Rehden. It will connect the planned Nord Stream pipeline with the Rehden-Hamburg gas pipeline and MIDAL pipeline. Together with MIDAL it will create a Greifswald-Bunde connection.
Technical features
The diameter of the pipeline will be 1,200 millimetres (47 in).[1] The capacity is planned to be 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.[2] The pipeline is expected to cost around €1 billion.[3]
The developer of the pipeline asked exemption from the network access and transit fees regulation; however, this request was denied.[4]
Project company
The pipeline will be constructed and operated by OPAL NEL TRANSPORT GmbH, a subsidiary of Wingas.[5] 20% of the company is owned by E.ON Ruhrgas.[4] Dutch gas transportation company Gasunie, which also has a stake in the Nord Stream pipeline, will have a 20% stake in NEL reducing stakes of Wingas and E.ON to 70% and 10% respectively.[3]
