History
- November 10, 1926: Iwate-Matsuo Station (岩手松尾駅) opens
- November 1, 1969: Freight operations abolished
- April 1, 1987: Upon the privatization of JNR, station transferred to JR East
- March 13, 1988: Station renamed to Matsuo-Hachimantai Station
- December 4, 1999: Station becomes unstaffed.
