John Joseph Adams (
September 16 ,1848 -February 16 ,1919 ) was aUnited States Congressman fromNew York State .Adams was born in Douglastown,
New Brunswick (now part ofMiramichi, New Brunswick ,Canada ) onSeptember 16 ,1848 . He immigrated to theUnited States in 1864, settling inNew York City , and worked in a dry-goods firm inNew York City until he began studies atColumbia University Law School. Adams graduated with a degree in law in 1876 and was admitted to the bar the same year.He was elected to the
United States House of Representatives from two different districts; he represented the 8th District from 1883 to 1885 and the 7th district from 1885 to 1887. Both districts at the time were inQueens . He did not seek renomination in 1886 and returned to the practice of law.John J. Adams died on
February 16 ,1919 , and was interred inGreen-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.External links
