Donna Rowland Barrett (born June 5, 1969, in Shelbyville, Tennessee) is a former member of the State Representative in the Tennessee General Assembly for the 34th House District in Rutherford County, Tennessee. She served as the State Representative from that area from 2000 to 2010.
Public service
In 1998, Rowland Barrett unsuccessfully ran against incumbent Representative Mary Ann Eckles for the 49th District House Seat. After garnering 48% of the vote, she adjusted back into private life before running a successful campaign against Mary Ann Eckles in 2000.
The MTSU alum served in the state house from 2000 to 2010. She was a member of the Finance, Ways and Means Committee, the Children and Family Affairs Committee, and the Consumer and Employee Affairs Committee. She also served on the powerful Fiscal Review Committee, overseeing government spending for the state, leading her to become a well-known fiscal hawk during her time on Capitol Hill.
As a State Representative, Barrett earned a reputation for representing the values of her district as an established, conservative, results-oriented legislator who solves problems.During her service, Rowland led a successful grassroots effort to defeat the proposed state income tax as well as leading a successful effort to repeal the practice of giving driver's license to illegal aliens. She became an effective champion for small business, lower property taxes and economic security for families of the 34th District and Tennessee.
