- Beth Midrash Hagadol-Beth Joseph
Beth Midrash Hagadol-Beth Joseph is a Modern Orthodox, Zionist synagogue in Denver, Colorado. [ [http://www.milechai.org/bmh-bj.html BMH-BJ entry in "Mile Chai" Synagogue Directory] ] [ [http://www.bmh-bj.org/membersh.htm BMH-BJ's Membership Page] ]
As of 2005, it was the only synagogue in the country affiliated with the Orthodox Union without a "mechitza", thus allowing men and women to sit together. It is the only surviving example of a seating style that had previously been present in a substantial number of Orthodox Union affiliated synagogues.[Judie Jacobson. [http://www.jewishledger.com/articles/2005/04/06/news/news05.txt "Former West Hartford rabbi to take over Stamford pulpit"] "The Jewish Ledger", April 6, 2005.] ]The synagogue is served by Rabbi Selwyn Franklin. [ [http://www.bmh-bj.org/bios.html#rabbiFranklin BMH-BJ's Staff Page] ] The previous rabbi, Daniel Cohen, left in 2005 after failing to convince the congregants to separate men's and women's seating and install a "mechitza".ee also
