Docklands Light Railway inTravelcard Zone 2 . It is a served by four of the five routes of the DLR. Thus it is the busiest station on the network in terms of services.History
Poplar was opened on
21 August 1987 . Long before then, there had been two stations with the same name. However, neither was near the site of the current station.
*Poplar railway station was on theLondon and Blackwall Railway between8 July 1840 to4 May 1926 . This is now the site ofBlackwall DLR station .
*Poplar (East India Dock Road) railway station on theNorth London Railway was in use until World War II. This is now the site ofAll Saints DLR station .The location of these two stations can be seen in the bottom-right hand corner of the Map of Poplar, 1885, referred to under External links.
Connections
Poplar serves a junction in four directions:
*Eastbound towards Beckton,London City Airport and King George V (next station Blackwall)
*Northbound to Stratford (next station All Saints)
*Southbound to theIsle of Dogs and Lewisham (next station West India Quay)
*Westbound to Bank and Tower Gateway (next station Westferry).The central depot for the DLR is situated next to Poplar station and is accessed through a pair of tracks just east of Poplar. These feature the tightest curves in operation on the railway.
