Forestieri was born in
Rosario , from parents originally fromMessina ,Sicily . His career began in 2003 withNewell's Old Boys but in 2003, when he was just 13,Boca Juniors bought him for $50,000. In Buenos Aires, Forestieri became well-known for his way of playing, which was compared withLionel Messi 's.In January 2006, at the age of 16, Genoa signed Forestieri on a five-year contract; Boca tried to keep the young player, but failed to do so.
