Clarence Cooper Jr wrote seven
novels , which described life in Black America. His books are detective mysteries, in an underworld of drugs and violence. He worked as an editor forThe Chicago Messenger circa 1955. He was said to have started taking heroin at this time.Cooper became alienated from those around him, potentially driven by the hostile response to his fiction.
