Chantry (technological)

A chantry is a type of wireless Local Area Network (LAN) that uses a technique called Virtual Network Services (VNS). VNS is a Chantry-specific technique that provides a means of mapping wireless networks to a wired topology. In a Chantry network, network management is centered at the access controller instead of the access points. The controller can manage more than 100 access points, which can be located anywhere on the network. It aggregates these access points into what appears to the rest of the network as individual, centrally managed Internet Protocol (IP) subnets. Chantry networking technology makes it possible to create virtual Wireless LANs (WLANs) with separate billing policies, security schemes and address spaces within a single physical WLAN.
