Joseph Hinks was a British inventor, working in Birmingham. He patented improvements to oil lamps, marketing the resultant Duplex lamp.
Brother of James Hinks he took over his company, James Hinks & Son, of 91-96 Great Hampton Street and 66 Hockley Street, Birmingham in 1839, patenting a duplex burner and extinguisher in 1865.[1] He became mayor of Leamington Spa.[1]
He died at Orkney Cottage Taplow Bucks..
He is buried in Key Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.[citation needed]
