Alan Mellor

Alan Mellor

Alan Mellor (born July 4, 1959) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a left-arm slow bowler who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire. He was born in Horninglow, Staffordshire.

Mellor represented the Derbyshire team in first-class cricket for two seasons, making his first-class debut against Kent and scoring a duck in the first innings of the match. He continued throughout the dreary 1979 season which saw Derbyshire slip to a second-bottom County Championship finish and did not play another County Championship match for the team.

Mellor was a tailender batsman for the Derbyshire team along with team-mate Mike Hendrick, Wisden's 1978 Cricketer of the Year. Mellor played three Youth Test matches and one Youth ODI, during the summer of 1978 against the West Indies.

More than five years later, Mellor resurfaced to play for his home county of Staffordshire in the Minor Counties Trophy.
