The name of the P'yŏngŭi Line combines one character from the name of each of its termini, "P'yŏng"yang and Sin"ŭi"ju. It forms one part of the
Gyeongui Line , which connected the capital city ofSeoul to Sinuiju from 1906 until thedivision of Korea . The character "gyeong" (경, linktext|京) means "capital" and refers to Seoul.Connecting lines

Sinuiju trains can continue over theYalu River Bridge into thePeople's Republic of China through the city ofDandong . Pyongyang has various rail links, including thePyongbu Line , another segment of the formerGyeongui Line running toKaesong . Connections have been built to rejoin the Pyongbu Line with theSouth Korea n portion of theGyeongui Line , but this connection is not yet open for traffic.
