Isabel Rockefeller Lincoln
- Isabel Rockefeller Lincoln
Isabel Rockefeller Lincoln was born in Ardsley-on-the-Hudson, New York on 23 June 1902. Her father, Percy Avery Rockefeller, was one of the richest financiers and industrialists of his time. Percy was the son of William Rockefeller, who made a fortune from the Standard Oil Co. Isabel's maternal grandfather, James Jewett Stillman, was an immensely wealthy banker and President of the National City Bank.
She attended Westover School. Isabel was a member of Junior League, of which she took an active part. She became a member of the advisory board and helped produce a play called "Ready Made". She also performed singing and dancing numbers. She studied bacteriology at Columbia University for three years, and then went to Europe for 5 months with her mother. She was a frequent face in New York high society since her introduction in 1920.
In January 1925, a false rumour was spread that she was to marry Alexander Thayer, son of Russell Thayer of Philadelphia. In June 1925, it was announced that she would marry Frederic Walker Lincoln, Jr. Her cousin William Avery Rockefeller II was married to a sister of Frederick Lincoln, Jr. The day before Isabel's marriage to Mr. Lincoln, a large party was held in their honour by William Avery Rockefeller II. The wedding was held on 26 September 1925 at Christ Episcopal Church in Greenwich, Connecticut by Rev. John Lewis. The day after the wedding, the newlyweds were again honoured at a large function at the Field Club of Greenwich. A week-long honeymoon in Buenos Aires followed in November.
As with many of her relatives, she all but disappeared from social life after her marriage. She died on 23 March 1980.
