John F. Leeming and a group of friends started building aglider in Bowdon nearAltrincham Cheshire . The club has been based atAlexandra Park Aerodrome (1924),Woodford Aerodrome (1924-1939) andBarton Aerodrome (1947-2007). (The club's planes were impounded duringWorld War II .)On
5 July ,1930 , a member of the club, Winifred Brown, won theKing's Cup Air Race hosted at Barton Aerodrome, flying anAvro Avian biplane built at Woodford.References
