- Sigerson Clifford
Sigerson Clifford (1913 – 1985) was an Irish poet and playwright.
He was born in
County Cork , although his parents were fromCounty Kerry , and they returned there in the following year, toCahirciveen . It was there that he grew up and went to school. After finishing secondary school, he went toDublin and joined the civil service.He wrote a number of poems and plays, including "The Great Pacificator", which was staged at the
Abbey Theatre , Dublin, in 1947. Clifford will be remembered for his poem "The Boys Of Barr Na Sraide" which is named after a street in Cahirciveen and speakes of the Irish tradition of "hunting" for the wren (a small bird) onSt. Stephen's Day , December 26.References
